Long ago, when the world was young, majestic Qulan roamed the steppes and deserts — the wild ancestor of modern horses, a symbol of freedom and natural strength. Legends from various peoples describe the qulan as the spirit of the steppe, carrying the wild, untamable wind.
One ancient legend tells that the qulan was created by the gods to protect the plains from evil. It embodied speed, quick thinking, and freedom. No one could catch the qulan — neither man nor beast. It ran faster than the wind, leaving no tracks on the ground. It is said that when the steppe needed help, the qulan could summon rain with its gallop, striking its hooves so that the sky opened and the long-awaited downpour began.
However, one day, forces of envy and pride persuaded humans to trap the qulan, to deprive it of freedom and strength. They crafted a cunning trap of golden chains, tracked it for a long time, and when captured, imprisoned it in a magical cage. When the qulan was caught, the entire steppe fell into silent stillness: the wind ceased, the sun hid behind clouds, the land lost fertility, and the colorful meadow faded… Humans realized their mistake and released the qulan, as its freedom was tied to the life and prosperity of nature.
The qulan, as a spirit of nature, forgave them and galloped once more across the steppes. Since then, it is said that the qulan is not merely an animal, but the spirit of the free wind and a symbol of untamed liberty.
